Munich is based on the true story of the aftermath of the Munich massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics.  It is the story of the Israeli government’s secret retaliation against the Black September terrorist group.

Spielberg’s film has been called outstanding and “a smart, mesmerizing and often angry film”.  In 2017, the film was named the 16th “Best Film of the 21st Century So Far” by The New York Times.
